Duncan Named Acting Superintendent

At a special meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25, the Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education appointed Dr. Allen Duncan Jr. as Acting Superintendent. 

Duncan has spent his entire career in District #7 and is currently the assistant superintendent, a role he has held since July 2024. He was previously the principal of Liberty Middle School for four years after serving as assistant principal there for five years. He began his career as a social studies teacher at Edwardsville High School. 

In 2022, Duncan was recognized as the Illinois Principals Association Southwest Region Middle School Principal of the Year. 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University and master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees in education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. 

 

Message from Dr. Duncan to the District #7 community: 

Dear District #7 Families,  

At last night’s September 25 Special Meeting, the District #7 Board of Education appointed me as Acting Superintendent. I am honored to serve in this role and deeply committed to our students, staff, and community.  

My work will be guided by two priorities: student learning and student safety. I will lead with integrity, transparency, and a genuine willingness to listen. Please feel free to reach out with your concerns, ideas, or suggestions as we move forward together.  

Together, we will continue strengthening District #7 and providing educational experiences that empower every student to achieve personal success.
